B A T I K L O S A R I


Losari in old sanskrit script means "the essences of the trees". Losari Batik utilizes a traditional technique of manual wax-resist dyeing with natural dyes. This ancient art form dates 4th Century.
In October 2009, Unesco recognized batik as unique hallmark of Indonesia and designated it a "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity".
Javanese traditional batiks have a special meaning rooted in the Javanese conceptualization of the universe. Regions of Indonesia have their own unique pattern. There are certain pattern of batik that can be worn by nobility, others that can be worn by ordinary people. Pattern worn by ordinary people  are based on themse from everyday life and rural subject. These pattern are called Rustik Batik.
Batik Losari produced rustik batik in Desa Jlamprang, Magelang and Diakonia Orphanage in Semarang.  The initiative supported 25 women working in our workshop.
